Scars of Shame - the first documentary about Excoriation (Skin Picking) Disorder, also known as Dermatillomania. The film tells the story of Angela Hartlin, a (then) 24-year old student from Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada, who suffers from Dermatillomania. Angela invites us into her world for an intimate portrait of her daily struggles as she deals with this condition.

Many individuals with this Skin Picking Disorder live with in isolation and shame. Scars of Shame takes an in-depth look at these effects as Angela travels from her hometown of Dartmouth, NS, to San Francisco, CA to seek advice and treatment from the top professionals in the world at the Trichotillomania Learning Center Annual Conference while meeting others with her condition. Our hope for this film is to increase awareness of Dermatillomania and explore possibilities for recovery and healing.
